Honesty

August 20, 2007 8:10 am

A happy couple once lived in a town. The husband was a teacher and the woman lived as a loving wife. One evening like normal, the husband returned home quite tired. As he came home asked his wife to give some water and make some tea. As a daily practice the lady went in to the kitchen to make some tea. By the time she came out the husband was fallen asleep. She kept waiting until he would get up. But her love for the man did not allow her to wake him up. So she sat by him all the time waiting for him.

The man got up by 4 a.m. in the morning, was completely surprised to see his wife sitting by him with the glass of water. Soon the story became a talk of the town and it became news. The Sheriff heard the story and rewarded the lady by going to their place for the honesty she showed. Next week the neighboring lady heard the story and planned to do the same again with her husband.

The reward, name and fame were all the time hankering in her mind. So, she played the similar situation and waited for her husband to wake up who pretended to be sleeping. By 4 a.m. the nest day she made lot of noise and tried to inform everyone in the area what had happened. When the news went to the sheriff, he was surprised too to hear the repetition.  As he entered the house he straight looked in to the eyes of both. He immediately understood the situation, manipulated.

For their dishonesty he did not say anything, but informed them that they would get the right reward too. The couple became very happy.

The next day he sent an officer with a letter in a gift box saying,” Honesty pays and dishonesty taxes, whosoever has been dishonest, will get a one day imprisonment”. He read it loud for them.

The officer noticed now the situation was different. Both of them wanted to send each other for the punishment. This exposed both of them; finally fell in the officer’s feet to be forgiven.
